UCL (Centre for Applied Archaeology)

University College London (UCL) is one of the leading universities in the world with students from 150 countries. Just over a half of the nearly 36,000-strong student community is engaged in graduate studies, with nearly a third of these graduate students pursuing research degrees. UCL is the top-rated university in the UK for research strength and research conducted at UCL has profound benefits for society and the wider world. UCL’s academic structure consists of 11 faculties, each home to world-leading research, teaching and learning in a wide-ranging variety of fields.

Within our PROMOTE project, UCL is represented by its Centre for Applied Archaeology (CAA). CAA is part of UCL’s Institute of Archaeology and CAA’s team provides support for academic staff at the Institute of Archaeology and commercial staff in its contracts division. It build links between commercial practice, academic research and local communities. CAA has experience managing large infrastructure projects as well as providing targeted research and policy advice to public and private clients. Nationally, it is well connected to professional associations, policy makers, museums, and businesses. Globally, it has provided policy advice, management services and archaeological expertise on an international level, including countries in Europe, Asia and Africa. CAA specialists also contribute to the teaching of UCL, and the centre is currently working on development of CPD courses at the IoA. The links within UCL, including UCL Advances – the university’s award winning Business and Entrepreneur programme –bring a further wealth of expertise to the project.
