Polytechnic Institute of Leiria (IPLeiria) is a public institution of higher education, at the service of society, dedicated to the production and diffusion of knowledge, creation, transmission and diffusion of culture, science, technology and arts, applied research and experimental development.
IPLeiria develops its activities in the aim of education and training, research, provision of services to the community and extending cooperation in educational, cultural and technical areas.
Presently, IPLeiria has about 980 teachers, more than 11.000 students and modern facilities and equipment. The institution comprehends 6 teaching and research units, offers master and graduate degrees, but also technological specialization courses, summer courses and post-graduations, some of them in English.
The development of R&D and Transference/Valorisation of Knowledge has been a strategic priority with several R&D projects at national, European and international context, strengthening partnerships with companies and other education and research institutions.
In Erasmus Program 2013/2014 IPLeiria had: 21, staff outgoing; 111 students outgoing; 46 staff incoming and 194 incoming students.
School of Tourism and Maritime Technology is a higher education school of the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria with Aquaculture, Biotechnology, Catering, Food Science, Hotel Management, Marine Biology, Marketing, Recreation and Tourism as main areas.
